What version of WordPress does Socrates work on?
Socrates works on versions 2.6 and above.
How many domains can I install Socrates on?
Single license is good one personal domain, unlimited license for all your personal domains. See our licensing page for more info. The developer license can only be purchased if you already own a customer license. It is good for 10 client sites or domain sales.
Will I need Web Hosting?
Yes. You need to have your own domain and hosting to use a Premium theme.
We recommend Bluehost, who is at the top of the list at WordPress.org
Is Socrates Search Engine Optimized?
Yes, Socrates layout is SEO optimized and we have a number of SEO options built into our navigation panel and pages. We also have built in meta tags for optimizing your home page and our system is compatible with all major SEO plugins.
In our download area we have several videos which show you how to install our recommended SEO plugins, and setup Socrates to be more SEO friendly.
Does it work on a MAC?
Socrates is a WordPress theme that is web-based. It is installed on your domain inside the wordpress dashboard. It is not a desktop application.
Can I use standard plugins and widgets with Socrates?
Yes, and if you come across a plugin that doesn’t work, please let us know. There are 1000′s of plugins so please understand we haven’t tested with all of them. Please do not email us asking us if a particular plugin works. You can safely assume it does… if not, we’ll make it work for you.
I have a WordPress.com blog, can I use Socrates?
I’m sorry, no. Socrates must be installed on a domain running WordPress software. It won’t work on a WordPress.com hosted blog.
Do I need to give you a credit card for the 7 day free trial?
No, you simply need to optin to receive access. No CC needed.

Louise, it would take about five to fifteen minutes to transfer both sites to Socrates and set them up. I just resized your horse header for you and can send if you purchase.

Julie, yes. Socrates will work with any webhost that has Mysql, Php and allows you to install WordPress. So basically it works with every major webhost.

Nancie, your webhost has little impact on installing a new theme. If you already have WordPress, you just install the theme as you would any other. Via Appearance > Add new themes. We have tutorials and instruction in the member’s area.

Yes. if we find a plugin that doesn’t work with Socrates we will resolve any issues quickly. We mention this above.

Congrats. I was just about to purchase thesis but i believe this will work much better. So, i can install it just like any other plug in? I am utilizing a mage product that is automated and i assume this is just a them creator? I have hostgator so do i install it from my wordpress blog? or do i have to reinstall it on a server by itself?

Thanks for the info i will do that. I am trying to narrow down just it is i want that has all the widgests collaborating together. I have run into a wordpress widget called “whish list” it is a membership plug in. Do you see any problem with this plug in and do you have any ideas of how a membership could benefit a Socrates site?

I got my refund from Thesis (nice of them, since I was a day beyond the 30 day guarantee) and installed Socrates. Running WP 3.0, and no problems. I’m really enjoying Socrates!
I have 2 questions:
1. Can I post videos to the Socrates WP theme?
2. I currently use GoDaddy as my host, can it be used with GoDaddy or do I have to have a HostGator account?
I am purchasing the product but I just want to know what to expect.

1. Yes, this is a just a wordpress function.
2. Yes, you can use with Godaddy, just make sure you have a plan that includes it.

All I meant was that adding videos is part of the posting process in WordPress. It’s unrelated to a WordPress theme. You just use embedding code from YouTube or any video site and insert it into the html of the wordpress post. You can also use plugins to insert videos.
We recommend Hostgator for hosting, and not Godaddy. (use coupon code: socratestheme to save $9.94 at hostgator.com) Godaddy has different hosting plans, if you want use Godaddy, just make sure your chosen plan supports WordPress.

Can you create a sales page or squeeze page without a header?
Can you create within a site on an individual page while maintaining full navigation and side bars on other pages and the blog?

Walt, yes you can create them without headers and yes you can create unlimited pages, and still maintain the blog on rest of site.
I don’t see breadcrumbs on the demo site and I don’t see it mentioned on the features list so I’m assuming it currently does not have built-in breadcrumbs. My understanding is this is breadcrumbs are very good for SEO and Google. Is this a feature that you plan on adding later? I’ve figured out how to add it using the Yoast breadcrumbs plugin with other themes and I’m assuming I could do the same here, but the less tweaking I have to do the better.
We don’t have breadcrumbs, but yes there are excellent plugins that will create them for you. We don’t have plans for them at the moment.

Just wondering if, in Socrates, you can limit the columns to just one (no sidebars) and remove the header completely – in order to make a clean site without any distractions?

I am confused by your statement that Socrates does not work with WordPress.com. I already purchased your unlimited Socrates application. If I set up WordPress.org, will that version be too complex for a newbie?

WordPress.com is a hosted solution which you can’t install outside themes on. WordPress.org is the same software which allows people to self host on their domains and which allows you to use outside themes.. They are the same software, wordpress.com has limitations to it’s use.. WordPress.org does not.. there is no difference in complexity.

Lance, we have many customers using that plugin, and as we state above, if we find a plugin that doesn’t work will fix.
Hi I currently have a website which instead of having the pages in the menu bar it shows the categories. Can that be done in your theme? Showing the pages in the above the header and the categories with the subcategories in the menu bar?
Yes, our navigation bars allow you to add any links you wish to them.. and you can even drag and drop categories into them.
I am embarking on a business in the “massage therapy” field. Would I be able to use the Socrates theme to build my online business presence instead of a typical “website” format?
ie pages for -about, courses offered etc.

You can use wordpress language support to make your public content the language you want. As far as the design of it. No.. this design would involve extreme customization, you could not convert Socrates to it.

I have been researching for along time trying to decide. There are so many wonderful programs. After seeing your software i can see that the applications are more inline with what the model for my clients will be. I have a couple of requests. I have click bank and amazon accounts. what other accounts will it support? I will tell you that if you could formulate a web application that would easily convert excel sheets on the fly so they could be put in the blog you would be a hero. I can’t find a plug in for that? What do you recommend? All of the programs are cumbersome to use to create code. Is there an excel plug in that will work for calculations and reports?

If I purchase the single domain license, can I later upgrade to the multiple domain later? If so, how much is it going to cost me?
We mention this on the order page. There is no upgrade fee.. You would need to purchase the full license. But you can transfer your single license if you sell one of your sites. Even buying both licenses we’re still cheaper than our competitors unlimited licenses.
If I buy a license are the themeupgrades free (no extra charge for a newer version of the theme?)
In the demo video you demonstrate the option for adding ads left from the social media block. The 728×90 adblock. If you don’t use this and neither use the social media block can hide within the theme so that there isn’t a strange white block on the page? You can see what I mean at 8:43 on the vid.

We will only charge for upgrades if we do a major overhaul of the theme, but all basic upgrades are free. The ad block is optional, you just turn it off and it hides.

I have watched the your socrates word press theme quite a few times. That being said, will I be able to make “posts” on each of my “pages”.
Currently I am only able to post on my “home” page with my wordpress blog.
The goal of the homepage is to tell /explain my field of study the courses I have to offer.
I would like to have different pages for different or more specific topics that are related to my particular field of study.

Hi, is socrates theme support 3 column?

Can the look easily being changed? For example, I want a rounded corner instead of the square one. And I want the header extended to the whole horizontal line or put a image as background image including the header. Can I move easily for where the navigation bar I want to put?
What if I sell a personal website I create. Is there a licensing issue?
The new site owner will need to have a license.
I am looking for a premium theme that I can turn features off or on. I want my product review page to have nothing on it but my product review so I want to be able to turn off the side bar (for example) and still have the full monty on my other pages.

You get all basic upgrades with your purchase. If we do a complete overhaul of Socrates we may charge, but there are no current plans to do so.
I cannot find anywhere if the $77 unlimited charge is monthly or yearly? I am very interested, but this really makes a difference.

It’s on the order page, but we don’t specifically state it’s one-time or not monthly. Themes are pretty much always one-time. I will adjust the text to make it clearer.

This question is better suited for the forum. I’d never heard of iBuilder… it’s not a wordpress theme but a template system. The question should be wordpress vs iBuilder. Let’s just say there is no comparison. WordPress is most popular web building platform in the world, it’s free and web-based. iBuilder is $99 up front and $10 per month and it’s pc based. WordPress.org is 85th most popular site in world, iBuilder is 1.2 Millionth (Socrates is 9,000th). There’s just no comparison. The mobile ready plugin to use for WordPress and Socrates is called “WpTouch”. No reason to reinvent the wheel when 1000′s of wordpress developers work to make wordpress better everyday. And that’s what separates WordPress from most every other web building system.

You can buy a single install, and then upgrade. However if you are planning on using Socrates for more than one domain, then I’d recommend you go with the Unlimited license from the start.
