I see alot of blogs that just have a snippet or short version of the day’s post on the main site instead of the full post. Then a button or link to “read more”.
How do you do that? Mine just shows the whole blog and makes the home page about a mile long after just 6-7 posts..
By using the more tag. Click here for “more”
you rock! Is there a way to make it automatically do this each time without having to enter the test you want? And what about putting the same tag/box at the end of each post? Kind of like you see here: http://www.shoemoney.com/2010/05/06/was-einstein-a-marketer/#more-7248 jeremy has the same bit of info at the end of each of his posts..
You should look into excerpt plugins for this, I’m sorry I don’t have one I can recommend. And you could edit the single.php file to add an html box to the end of posts, and there’s probably a plugin these days for that as well.
The Post Teaser plugin is great (handles images well and doesn’t break the html). It can be installed as a standalone, or it’s also packaged with the SEO Core Tweaks plugin. I had developed my own plugin and script to do this, but Post Teaser does it so much better (and I don’t have to tweak themes anymore
)
For the appended html, there’s a number of plugins as well. There was an “all purpose” plugin I used for a long time (still do) called Adman that the developer no longer supports and is no longer registered with WP. It’s too bad because it was brain-dead simple. One I’ve used with success is called Add Post Footer. Another one I haven’t tried is called Append Content.
Now, for MY question – when can we expect the new release of Socrates, and will it include all of these new headers? (I guess that was 2 questions
)
Walt, sorry for delay on this your comment got flagged as Spam. Socrates 2.0 will be out in about 8 days or so.. we keep finding new things to add. And all headers will be loaded dynamically from Amazon s3, and when a customer saves one it will be downloaded to their site.
OK. I have tried and tried to get the top header changed. I have ” We love our timeshare Vacations” with a Wind surfer picture. It does not change .
Also, I want the large “Socrates” banner with the social sites.
This must have happened before and I can’t find where to look so I won’t bother you guys.
