Is it a one time payment
Yes, our licenses are a one time payment.
If I buy the single version today for one domain, is it possible to upgrade later for an unlimited version for a cheaper price ($30) or is it then still the $77, even though I have paid already $47 for the single version?’
Kind regards
Renate
I just registered a Domain Name on a recommended Server, Blue Host.com. I am having the Domain name transferred from GoDaddy to BlueHost.com. It will take a couple of days for this to happen. In the meantime, do I install WordPress on my site at BlueHost.com? After I have that installed, do I install Socrates on that server. I asked BlueHost a number of questions and I was impressed with their immediate response.
Once your domain is live on Bluehost, install wordpress, and then once you load wordpress install Socrates via “add new themes” If you have issues let us know.
Renate, sorry for delay in responding.. I had a large number of comments get filtered as spam and just went in and approved them.
We mention this on the main page, currently we do not have an upgrade price because of the low cost of the theme. We are actually planning on removing the single license as only 1 in 100 people have been purchasing it.
The single user is a great offer for endusers, like if we sell a site and the buyer needs to buy a license.
“We are actually planning on removing the single license as only 1 in 100 people have been purchasing it.”
Ian, that is true.. we will still keep it, but maybe for that reason only. We also have a multi-pack option will be adding for resellers in near future.
Love this theme. I was thinking of buying Thesis or FlexSqueeze but not now.
You mentioned in one of your replies that you were busy with comment spam, Dan. I have that problem with one of my blogs too. I think I will install the CAPTCHA script that I see on a lot of Social Medis sites.

Anyway, back to your Socrates blog theme. I have a couple of questions.
Could you please elaborate on your “Client Option” on purchasing your theme. Sometimes I build blogs for other people and I also plan to do some blog flipping a little later.
Also, I know how important it is to have eye capturing headers BUT headers almost always take up way too much prime, above the fold, screen space.
Is there a way to make the header more “interactive” somehow? ex. – …make header width=50% and for other 50% create a text widget area.
Thanks
Joe
I agree with Ian. As I may very well use this with clients, or perhaps sites I plan on selling, it would be good to have the single user price. if i am building a site with the sole intention of flipping it, I would not mind buying a single user license.
Dan,
I could not find “Personal” domain defined anywhere. Can I presume it refers to businesses owned and operated by me, as opposed to client businesses? I don’t offer any web development, just run my own multiple companies and maintain multiple sites for myself.
Thanks,
Bill
Bill, you are correct. “personal” refers to any domain owned where either you or your company is the registered owner of the domain.
Joe, it was just legitimate comments flagged as spam.. like yours just was, hence the delay in responding.
Your client or customer needs to buy a Socrates license to use or you can buy them license with your CB ID for net cost of about $25.. cheap compared to most client licenses.
It’s possible to add html to the header area to display text, links, banners etc. Will consider doing a tutorial on it in future.
Hi Guys – Great product. What a time saver.
Q1: If I build a site with my $77 license and then I later decide to sell the site, I understand that the new owner will need to buy their own license. That part is clear. When the site is sold and the site is transfered to the new owner, is there an area in the site where the new owner has to login with their own login credentials? Is that how the next person can take over the site?
Q2: I may not know ahead of time whether I going to eventually sell a site at the time of building it. Would it better just to purchase the Developer 10 Pak so I can sell them at will and not have to worry about having the future owner buy a license instead of me buying the $77 license?
Q3: Is there a tutorial that shows step by step how to move a site from one hosting account to another keeping everything in tact including the mySQL data base? Do you know if there is a software program that “packages up” the existing site for easy transfer to another host?
(I just want to make sure it’s easy to tranfer site ownership when using Socrates for the build.)
Great tool – can’t wait to start building them.
Hi guys,
With the Developer 10-Pak license, you spoke of a future “activation” requirement. If I buy the 10-Pak today and build and sell those sites prior to the implementation of the “activation” requirement, will that affect the sites I build and sell prior to that implementation? (I just don’t want my buyers to be “surprised” one day when the activation requirement is turned on.)
Thanks
Jeffrey, only if they downloaded the new version with the activation system.. will work out any details on that when the time comes.
Jeffrey,
1. If the owner buys their own license they are all set, they’ll have access. If you buy 10 Pack, they basically just get license to continue using theme. It’s on the honor system for now.
2. Sounds logical to me..
3. Dozens of tutorials online about this, we haven’t created one, but if you google: “move wordpress” you’ll find lots of resources. I would say it takes approximately 5 minutes to move a domain and wordpress blog once you’ve done it a few times.
Im confused about the 2 prices. If I buy the $77. version can I put your product on all of my websites.
I already have a few domain names but no website. if I host through Hostgator will I easily be able to install Socrates and use it as a website and blog. The reason I ask is that a lot of products say they have step by step instructions and in the end they dont.
Thanks
Yes, the unlimited license lets you use Socrates on all your domains. Yes, you can easily install on Hostgator. You can watch me setup a complete site in just a few minutes on Hostgator at: http://www.socratestheme.com/webinar.php
Hi Dan,
This has come up before in a different way:
Can I buy the $77 multiple pack and down the road if I decided to sell it buy the $197 10 pack and use one of the licenses for the buyer?
Thanks!
Hi Dan,
Looks like a great product with good training and support built in ?
I have a problem purchasing through Click Bank.
Maybe you can find the solution. It will be for your USD $77 for the unlimited Domain names.
Click Bank has a restrictave policy of not allowing my good US Credit Card attached to my foreighn billing address where I live not to be used .
Wow this is crazy as my Card is used succesfully with all kinds of online merchants but not with Click Bank.
Do you have any alternative ways of payments or ideas?
I am with Eric Holmund at http://www.ericstips.com and he strongly endorses your product so you must be good!!
The only thing is his payment would also take me to the Click Bank page that is blocking my purchase efforts and also I am missing out on Erics bonuses.
Since I have your attention and you can correct me if I am wrong. Adsense is not recommended by many Marketers because the payout is not high enough and the prospects are taken away from the site.
And in the beginning I need for my business to create
many visual Travel and Tourist blogs linked together by nitches first for my GardenVillaPhuket business.
I need to upload many of my own graphics?
I wish to make many of my blogs non generic and very unique?
Thank You Dan for your time answering this Post.

Yes, you can use one of your 10 pack licenses for your own site.
Barry, first you can contact Eric and paypal him the $77, we’ll work out the rest. Second, I have never ever heard anyone say Adsense isn’t good for Marketers. So I completely disagree with that. In fact I have one of the oldest Thailand info sites online (14 years old) and make a nice income from Adsense on it. Third, You can upload your own graphics and design your blog headers to be unique.
I read the other posts and I’m still not clear.
The site has
Unlimited Domain Option – $77.00
* Option to remove footer link (if you don’t want commissions)
Client Option
If you wish to use Socrates on Client’s sites or sell sites using Socrates, than you can simply purchase theme for Clients/Customers using your Clickbank ID. This will give them license to use and you’ll get the 50% commission.
I bought the $77 package. I have a clickbank account. I create websites/blogs for others. My client wants a socrates theme for their site. So do I click on the socrates theme link on one of my sites and then purchase the socrates theme for them and I get a commission.
Do I put my clickbank info somewhere when I set up the socrates theme on my own site?
James you can now buy the bulk license and just set up 10 clients with Socrates without buying additional. Or you can purchase a single Socrates license in your name again for that client using your Clickbank ID. Or you can have them purchase using your ID. The 10 Pack is really the best deal.
Just wanted to add a comment about BlueHost. I had purchased a hosting plan using a domain name that I decided I didn’t want to use after all. I wanted to use a different one, but didn’t want to just change the old one to the new one. I phoned BlueHost and they couldn’t have been more helpful. I ended up cancelling the old hosting account and they refunded the fee I had paid on a pro-rated basis. Then they set up a new account with my new domain name and did this all over the phone; I even had to go to two different departments which was seamless. Everything was set-up the way I wanted it within about 15 minutes. People I talked with were extremely helpful and courteous. I would recomend this hosting service in a minute. They also have a special price now. So hope this plug isn’t out of place, but since the topic was already started, I wanted to add my $.02.
I just purchased a single user account for a client using my clickbank id. I know that the socrates link will remain on their site. Who will get paid if someone buys the theme from my client’s site?
Also when purchasing before I could download, I had the choice of creating a new account or logging in with my account. I chose my account. What if my client wants to update their socrates them without me, can they? Can they have their own account on the socrates site?
Hi Dan
After finally blasting out of analysis paralysis – mantra … WTF! – I WILL this week choose a web host, buy a few domain names, and use Socrates to build the sites. The first site will be my Blogger humor blog. I really hoped to find out whether your training videos explain how to do that – move a Blogger blog to your own domain using WP/Socrates. Thanks for any help and for your wisdom and contributions to IT Okies like moi…
Bill
It’s very easy.. you just use the import function in WordPress. Authorize access to your blogger account and it will import all your posts.
Hi Dan
With regard to a question posed in may this year.
Did you get round to doing the video on inserting a text widget are in the header.
I think this would be great as i could use that space for prime advertising sales.
All the best
Kevin
ps: Just downloaded the new 2.1 version but i see the banner ads is not up and running yet?
Kevin, your comment doesn’t seem relevant to the license post. If you’d like to post questions on the forum that would be a better place.
There’s a mod on the forum for adding code to header and reload your banner exchange page in dashboard.
Activation Error: Unknown activation code, please double check your code and try again.
This copy of socrates is not active, please activate it:
I place the code that was send to me.
Not working now.
Thanks for fixing the problem.
You are very fast, and can see Socrates around for along time.
I signed on the ‘trial basis’ and upgraded to the ‘unlimited licence’ a couple of day ago. But I’m still told that I must upgrade by Nov 25 – and cannot access unlimited licence areas. Can this situation please be fixed.
Russell, looks like you didn’t login after purchase.. I just upgraded the account, and you should be all set.
If I understand the liceneing policy correctly all sites owned by the licencee are deemed as part of the Unlimited Domain Option – $77.00? My goal for 2011 is to build a business and rent out sites, as these sites are still in my name and owned by me but rented by the client on a month – to – month basis where do I stand?
Robert, if you are the domain owner that is covered by the license. However, I would recommend you look into this model a little further. If anyone asked me if it was a good idea to “rent” a website I would tell them they were crazy. It’s cheaper to own. I don’t know any successful website rental businesses.
I have one domain. I intend to have many categories and pages of different topics in those categories. how can i configure socrates to be different for each new domain.com/new_page_new_topic type of situatiion. Does the multiple license cover this? Thanks Jessica
Jessica, I don’t know exactly what you mean about socrates being “different”. Creating pages and categories is a basic function of WordPress. The multiple license covers any scenario including multiple domains and sub-domains. If you’d like to post a question on the forum about this we can discuss further.
Hi Dan,
Great product. I am currently using the 7 day trial product but I did upgrade this morning to the Unlimited Domains for $77.00.
Will I be receiving another email message with a NEW code for the Unlimited Domains? How long does it take? I paid for this at 10:06 EST AM today and it is now 11:50 AM and have not yet received another email. I have other sites I want to install but my understanding is that the trial version (registration code) would only allow one site.
Thanks
Stan
After you upgraded you are redirected to a form where we tell you to login to your trial account. This automatically upgrades your activation code to unlimited and there’s nothing else to do. If you didn’t read our message and resubmitted the registration form it creates a new account. I’ll make sure your trial account is upgraded and any new accounts are deleted. Try reloading your dashboard in five minutes.
Is use of subdomains in WordPress on a single TLD (myTLD.com, subdom1.myTLD.com, subdom2.myTLD.com) supported by the “single domain” personal license, or is the multi-domain license required? I’m trying to figure out which license to order.
I’m sorry no. Single license is one install only.
