Wow! This is an awesome theme. I’m really excited about it and installed it right away today. Still playing around with it, but the possibilities are endless.
What I really like is that you can customize this theme any way you want to, and then, in a few months do it all over again and it appears to be a completely new theme. It’s very user-friendly, too.
The only tip I have is to set your background color before setting the header or the header doesn’t stick.
But this theme is totally worth the price! The layout is great, very SEO friendly, and I’m really pleased to be a new owner.
Smart move putting your products in here, but I have NO problem offering them to my audience. They’re great. So, who doesn’t want to make some money, eh?
Keep this stuff coming! You guys are always coming up with the cutting edge stuff. You totally rock and I love it!

Jim, thanks… if you want to keep that top ad, you need to change your height in the style.css under .im-topAds… change from 90 to 120 or so.

This is a great theme, I’m gonna use it on all my affiliate niche sites.
The only things, maybe someone knows, when I put a table in the post ( I want to have 2 columns of benefits with checkmarks next to each) each of the cells has a border and the background is grey, although I set everything at 0, and background is blank, which works on a regular site.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this, would be appreciated.

I’m enjoying the specific targets of the navigation bar, although I would like the option to have nested menus for the main menu.

Lin – not sure if this would do the trick for you, but you can use the HTML Block 1 and 2 in the ad rotation area to put in any HTML that then rotates. Conceivably, you could put in a single Google Ad block there, and it would rotate contextually with the other ads. Just be sure you haven’t gone over your limit with ad blocks on the same page.

Lin, I’ll be adding the Clickbank hop ad builder which will rotate ads based off keywords you enter. As far as CJ/Linkshare we’re looking into options. One thing about contextual ads is you have to be careful not to violate Google’s TOS about google-like contextual ad displays.

Nice. Wish I had that luck. Mine have only a about 90 cents in adsense. Im still learning the different adsense plugins that work the best.

I used Socrates to put up two sites in the last two days and these are my first sites ever using a WordPress theme, so there was a bit of a learning curve involved, but this theme made things fast and easy.

Just (yesterday) moved my 10 year old UK broadband review site onto Socrates.

Took about 10 minutes to create the WordPress / Socrates site structure, 2 days to integrate GD Star Rating (not all that easy) and 4 days to copy the content over from the old site.
Already seeing a big improvement in user engagement (i.e. reviews, ratings etc)
Before Socrates came along, I was put off updating the old site (proprietary design in ASP.NET) as the last update in 2005 took almost 4 months! With WP+Socrates it ended up taking just more than a week.
I now have the strong marketing and SEO orientated design of Socrates, flexible CMS and a great review platform (GD Star Rating is very good once you figure out how it works and get over the Eastern European / English translated tech documentation).
I looked long and hard at WP themes for over a year and was almost going to buy the “Heat Map” theme (elsewhere). However, Socrates came along and is the only one that delivers on SEO, advertising integration etc IMHO.
Socrates is a theme created by / for business people rather than 99% of WP themes created by graphic designers (with lots of ideas for fancy scrollers but no clue about online marketing).
However, not everything can be perfect and there are a number of minor bugs in the theme (e.g. search form “action” attribute incorrectly defined and some CSS howlers) but these took about 2 minutes to identify(with Firebug) and fix in custom CSS and some small changes to header.php. There needs to be a stuctured process for feeding back these fixes to Dan so they can be included in the next updates.

Fantastic job on the site.. Just so our customers know, looks like you used two installs to generate the unique look and setup. Very clever.
I do have the Feedback form on the dashboard splash page, but I might be moving that to it’s own tab in the next update. We’ll definitely be fixing some of these minor issues in the next update. Which I hope to have out mid-month.
Quickly changed my “green blog” over to Socrates a few weeks back. Am very happy with the ease of use and “cleanliness” of these themes…you guys are the best.
In my review of “Thesis” on my marketing blog, I even added an addendum stating that I have changed my theme from Thesis to Socrates and why!

Nice job… one suggestion, in the background panel, change background to repeat-x and then in style panel change background color to #338ab7. This will make the bottom color of background image extend all the way to bottom of page.

If I was to add something to the feature wishlist it would be for more than two configured ads for the rotator. On the site I have for my wife’s financial advice we have a number of clickbank products I would love to have in the rotator.

I’ve had my web site up for a little over a week using the Socrates theme and the Adsense plugin, but every time I check my site, I see none of the 300×250 Adsense ads appearing on the page. Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

On my other site which I built in the same way, the ads appear fine. You’d think there would be a lot of Adsense ads for a fitness-related site, so I don’t think lack of ad inventory is an issue.
Any insights would be appreciated.
You can only display 3 Adsense ads at a time. First, change your easy adsense settings for this 3 max display (and you can remove their link too) and remove the second “sponsors” section from your sidebar.

I’m a clinical hypnotherapist based in the UK and have an online shop that’s just been established and wanted a blog page as well. Having found socrates I’m using that on the blog and may well use it in future to create other pages for new products too.
The site and shop were developed with a web designer and database designer especially for my emotional eater on line course – it seemed very complicated. Greetings from a fellow UK resident! Like yourself, I’m a big Socrates fan and have a number of sites running the theme now.
As far a specific comments go, here’s my 2 cents worth.
Whilst it’s not really my niche, I found your blog to have a lot of well written (unique?) content. However, I think that the blog could be changed in a few ways to drive more sales and traffic. Here are some suggestions:
1) Keyword research and Tags
Not sure if you’ve done this already, but there might be some value in organising your tags into the key phrases that you are trying to attract from search engines.
2) Titles
Again on search engines, you might like to re-arrange your titles. At the moment, your articles are showing something like “Hypnosis Self Help – Your Self Help Blog » anxious about exams:”. If you are trying to target keywords “anxious about exams”, your title is in the wrong order. Fortunately, there is a plugin that can help (Extreme SEO).
3) Lead capture and engagement
Maybe think about adding the RSS (feed me) and Twitter buttons back into the header?
Also it might be a good idea to include a “sign up by email” box? You can do this easily in Feedburner and with the Feedburner FD WP plugin.
4) Message
I had to go digging in your blog to find your hypnosis course. It’s in 2 places: one on the link “Anne Morrisons website” and at the bottom of the page called “coaching”. Perhaps a simple change to let visitors know that you offer professional courses? I’d suggest doing some keyword analysis (e.g. in Wordtracker) and changing your links to match the phrases that are most sought in search engines for your niche.
Just a few ideas that I hope help you out.
BTW, one of my new sites (http://www.bright-reviews.com) is in the Health niche and I’m adding content daily. Perhaps there are some ways that we could work together for content, links etc? Drop me a line on the bright-reviews contact form if interested.

My 62 year old brain appreciate the power of Socrates. This tool has minimized the tearing out of the hair stage of blog creation for me, since the tutorials are perfect for my level of experience. I have one problem though, my blog, http://www.logan-counseling.com, and please take a look if you have time, is designed to maximize lead creations for my wife’s therapy practice, so I want to to link to local charities in the blogroll, and the blogroll is populated with some other “stuff”, so I have missed the training that says how to delete the “stuff” so I can put in the YWCA, women’s shelter, ect. links? Just click on “Links” in your wp dashboard, delete current ones and add new ones.
Socrates is a Fantastic Addition to WordPress! We run many sites which have a full blown Content Management System as the back bone and it typically takes a week to get them set up. I have a question and wasn’t sure where to post it. I currently have 2 Socrates sites and want to know how to create a sitemap url to submit to Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask etc. I know that you have to authenticate your site and I know how to do this with my other sites, but not with blogs.
Also, as someone who owns a number of web sites, I am amazed at how quickly blogs seem to get indexed as compared to web sites. Can you comment on this?
Do we have to be concerned about canonical references. I notice that whenever I type in http://www.fitstrongandhappy.com to go to my blog, the www is stripped off in the browser address window and replaced by http://fitstrongandhappy.com. Is this anything that I should be concerned about?

You should install the Google XML Sitemap plugin. Blogs automatically ping out their content when published which certainly helps, and google just likes the structure better.. Honestly I’m not an expert on this, but it usually boils down to better distribution of content and structure. Here’s my opinion on the www/non-www. If you’re the type of person who types “www” in your browser, than set your Settings > General paths to include the www. If you’re not, then leave it be. Here’s why.. Google treats both links differently. So if you are apt to build backlinks by typing in “www” then your URL should be that same way.

Socrates totally rocks! I have used it on two of my domains so far. Due to my absolute lack of any spare time while closing my brick and mortar store, building my online store http://www.dailysurvivalgear.com (not a wordpress site or Socrates)and moving my household, I have only been able to spend a few hours on two of my sites, but they look really good so far anyway. I have switched most of my blogs now to Socrates from Expertwordpress, although I can’t knock those guys, I learned a lot using it. However Socrates just does things easier. I have given up trying to make money with the get rich quick schemes (that’s the polite word), so now concentrating on real products. I purchased InfoProductKiller and I am applying his techniques to my blogs although I am going to build a few product wesites using his templates.

My Socrates site uses the Skinny Sales Page for every single page. This required some hacking, since it was not designed for certain things like the contact form. I also made a bunch of personalized html and css changes to the template.
I’ve yet to use all of the features of the template, but so far am quite pleased with all the versatility and can see the potential. But I’d like to see more of them available for the Skinny Sales page by default so one doesn’t have to hack it. This way you can use that template for the entire site.

I used Socrates on my Extreme Sports Blog. I changed the post header colors to liven it up a bit and added a colorful header picture.
It’s sort of jammed with google ads. I’m going to test taking some of them off to see if I get better retention. I selected image only ads for the top banner because I want a lot of images and video on the site.

Hi Louise B, I look at your site not bad…not bad at all, ok here’s a few thing you can do to streamline your site. Have ever consider adding some extra tags or hmtl type tags to your post, what I mean is {headline tags } { tags} {bold tags }and {Break tags }, these type of tags will make your site standout more it catches the eyes of your followers. Like when you embed a video place a center tag in front of your video like this VIDEO EMBEDDED CODE this will place your video in the middle of the page also place h2 tags when starting a new paragraph NEW PARAGRAPH this separate your content and after each paragraph place a break in between your content this let’s your reader scans your content to find what there looking for quickly & with easy and it also breaks up your page. Hi, picked up the socrates theme in mid december 2010. I have to tell everyone how great this program is. The root blog is http://www.on-the-rag.com. I’m using a program that creates wild card subdomains so the root domain actually consists of 70 blogs and climbing. From start to finish (wp install,5 plug-ins,auto content creation and wp syndication)it usually takes about 18 minutes to create each blog. Thanks to socrates they all look great. Love the header. The only thing I would change is the pink text in the menu bar under the header. It clashes with the red and green.
Although I’m not a proponent of white text, it would look better on the dark green background.
