View Full Version : In the beginning... basics? Sociable?

Frustration levels rising...
I've looked at the Socrates example sites and have no idea how people built them, where to go to learn, or what actually is done in Socrates and what from WordPress.
Is WP for Dummies the best place to start? Is there a Socrates for Dummies?
Also, I added Sociable but it is not showing up at the bottom of the posts. Older posts do have buttons, but they are a legacy from importing from Blogger, and I don't know how to nuke them.

What's the problem, just taken a look at your site and think the content is great, which is 9/10ths of the way towards creating a great blog!
The design, though important, isn't the most important part.
I spent fifteen minutes reading your content before even noticing your header or design, which is unusual for me as a designer :o , I even stopped wondering about your site title... which I still don't get!
I can see the social network buttons on all your posts, though there are two on the earlier posts.
Envy the Auckland bit, spent a month there earlier this year and seriously considering a move sometime in the future, a lovely country, though no tornadoes!
p.s. Just read your 'About' page - get the title now :)

Thanks for your kind comments, Phil, and exceptional taste.
While being funny is never easy, writing humor is a walk in the park for me compared to trying to do technical stuff like get the blog launched and monetised. I loathe feeling stupid and don't know how to learn just enough. Bugger.
So what's a newby to do? Books? Videos? Vulcan mind meld? Adult beverages?
And any idea about where I go and what I do to nuke the "buttons" that I imported from blogger? And I'd like to lose the Kindle advert too.

I'm guessing that when you imported your posts from Blogger that the extra code was part of the post.
I suggest that you go into each offending post, probably in HTML mode, and check right at the bottom of the post.
If there is any code after the last word of the post remove it... should fix the problem.
On the Gaga, Cher post you will find this at the end:
Which I think shouldn't be there...

Sorry, should have said.
Go into edit any of your posts and at the top of the edit screen you will see 2 tabs, Visual and HTML.
Hit HTML and you will see the source code.
Find and remove the offending code.... done
