Hi guys,
Firstly, from my first impression this theme is a really great effort and I'm sure has taken some serious work to pull off. Thanks..!
I am currently using Socrates 2.0, uploaded it using Firefox through my WP Dashboard>>new themes>>upload.
I am able to switch headers and input text using the headers you provide, although the system seems to fight a bit, I am able to apply headers you provide.
I created a test header (960x150 pixels) in jpg format, but am NOT able to upload it. The system simply will not accept my header.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall with explorer, etc...NO GO..! Thoughts...?
Ed
What happens when you click upload after selecting the image? Does it display some sort of error or does it simply go back to the old header?
Also, what web browser are you using and have you tried it in a different web browser?

Hi again,
No, I do not get an error message. The original header simply stays in place. I do however get a message that the header image (file name) uploaded, but simply does not appear in the theme.
I just checked my files (content>>header images>>uploads) and there are no records found in that file. The header image simply is NOT uploading.
I have tried both Firefox (version 3.6.2) and Explorer 8, but neither make any difference. Please advise.
regards,
Ed

Dan, Jon or Socrates,
Am I the only one with custom header upload problems..? Could you possibly give me a hand, as I am unable to upload a custom blog header. Regards, Ed

I've got a similar problem. I have created a customer header using XHeader abd uploaded it to the dashboard. The header shows up fine in the admin mode but when I save and go to the site the header is blank save for the text which I added in te dashbboard.
I have tried various browsers but the same thing happens.
Any ideas?
Ed, CHMOD your header-images/uploads folder to 777, it sounds like it may have read only permissions set on that folder which usually happens when the theme is installed via FTP.
David, it is unclear if you mean the text you type isn't appearing or if the image isn't, could you clarify? Do you have a link to the site it is happening on so I can take a look?

Jon,
Thanks a bunch and...yes it was my dumb moment (my words not yours) not to change my blog permission to 777, although 755 seems it should have worked - hmmmm.... Anyway, it uploaded and all is fine in Headerland...lol!
Best regards,
Ed

755 is what it should be set to, just wanted to have you try 777 to cover all the bases. If 755 works stick with it.

Hey Jon,
Just so we are all clear on what worked.
I originally had my permission set to 755 which works to write with most themes, but I was unable to upload my custom header. Based on your suggestion, I changed permission to 777 and was able to get the header uploaded. Issue resolved...tks..! Ed

I've CHMOD the file to 777 but it is still not showing
It is the image that is not showing. The text is fine.
Also if I do a Page info I notice this setting:
Location: http://kp210240.com/wp-content/themes/socrates/header-images/abstract/JigsawPuzzles.jpg
There is no such directory as header-images/abstract.
Why is it looking in this location for this jpg? The jpg I want is in the themes.images/uploads directory and has a totally different name.

It looks like you are using the old 1.x version of the Socrates theme. Try updating to the 2.01 beta version in the download area, chances are it will fix your problem.

I was using 2.01. Then I deleted it and loaded the older 1.2 version. But still th same problem. However I notice that in the header-images folder I now have the various category directories e.g. Abstract, People, Uploads etc and the image I want to use is sitting in the uploads directory and set at 777
Every other header image works fin except for the one in uploads.

Solved it!!
The image I was originally using was header2104(3).jpg. I decided to change its name to header2104.jpg an see what happened...and guess what...it worked beautifully.
It seems as if the (3) in the name was causing the problem.
Thanks for you help

Hello,
I have followed all of the directions on uploading a custom header and still am having trouble. I completed all of the steps in setting up Socrates in the control panel, I visited the file manager page and changed the permissions header-images/uploads to both 777 and 755. I even went as far as to removing WP and reinstalling everything. I also double checked to make sure that I do not have two directories installed. Any suggestions?
Alan
