When I click on a category in my sidebar I get an Error 404 message. How do I get current and past posts to be listed under the appropriate categories? I did click the relevant categories when I was creating the post.
Thanks
Wayne

It's always important to include a URL for these types of questions so we can look at your site.

It sounds like a permalinks problem but would need to see your URL to be sure.

Goto Settings > Permalinks

Change your permalinks settings to: /%postname%/

And save..

That should fix.

Hi Dan,
In the custom structure permalink box I already had /%postname%/. When I added /%category%/ before it one of the categories accessed the article. When I wrote the article I had selected two categories. At the top of the Edit Post page the permalink refers to only one of the categories (the one that works).
I'm afraid I'm still doing something wrong (don't you just hate newbies?)
Thanks

You don't need anything but /%postname%/

Thanks Lynn, but as I said when I leave it with just /%postname%/ the categories don't link to the articles. What else am I missing?

If you want to send me a PM with an admin username and password I can take a look. There is definitely something funky going on with your permalinks and possibly some redirection going on.

Click on my name in the post. In my profile will be a link to send a private message.

It was your entry in the category base optional field that was messing things up. You might want to set it for reading more than one post per page. Up to you.

Thanks for all your help Lynn. Where do I find the category base optional field? Is it something that I messed? I don't want to have to go through this again.

It is in the bottom half of the permalinks page. Yes, we catch a Binghamton Senators game when we can.
