Hiding a Post...?

I'd like to know if there is a way to hide a specific post from showing up in the "recent posts" section?

I tried putting it on "private", but that didn't work....any suggestions?

I would make it a page rather that a post and use the exclude pages plugin to prevent it from showing up on any list.
