Static Home Page Issue

I'm trying to set home my home page as a static site, but WordPress keeps showing my "Hello World" post as my Home page. I have not been able to figure out how to change it. I suspect it's a WordPress problem, but would appreciate any insight as to how to resolve the problem.

I've set up a page as my home page and inserted it in the navigation part of Socrates, but it still keeps coming back to this post.

Did you go into the Reading page under Settings and select static home page and pick the page you want? Just setting the nav panel is not enough.

You've hit the problem, but I don't know what to do about it.

Usually when you open the reading tab the page starts off with "Front Page Displays" and gives you a choice of "your latest posts" or "Static Page". However, when I go to the reading tab I am not given that choice. It starts out with "Blog pages show at most" and then a box for 10 or however many you want.

Any ideas on how to get the reading page to display correctly?

Very strange. What version of WordPress is installed on your site?

It's the 3.0 or 3.1, I just installed it the other day from Host Gator using Fantastico.

What he is describing is correct for the Reading page. But it should be showing the Front page displays section above that. It might be that the WordPress installation was corrupted somehow. Maybe a reinstall of WordPress is called for.

Ok Lynn, I checked my own and I saw that he was missing some at the top, and I wondered if it was possible that he was on the wrong page, it is as you say, most strange

As Lynn said a reinstall of Wordpress may be in order. Did you add in any new plugins? I know I was having problems with my headers playing up in Socrates, and I was stumped, it eventually turned out to be a plugin and when I removed it, I was rolling again, I know this is slightly different, but just wondered if it might be a possibility?

OK, first I'll deactivate my plugins to see if anything happens. If not I'll just wipe out everything since I'm not that far along and reinstall WordPress.
