Navigation Bar - by Categories
Dan: If you have already covered this I could not find it.
I saw an earlier post where you can modify the navigation
bar to do a drop down menu. That is half of what I want.
The second half, can the menu be by category? I would
like to put my category names across the navigation bar,
and then have the drop down menu actually open up the
articles for that category.
If you use the "Category" widget for the sidebar, it does
exactly this. I would just prefer to have that same function
incorporated into the drop-down navigation bar?
Do I have a chance at this? Or am I asking for the moon?
I don't know of a way to automatically add articles to a drop down menu, you could probably add them as a link and do it manually for every article.
Remember article titles are long... they wouldn't look good in a drop down.
Have you ever seen this done? If so, can you send a link..
Thanks for the quick response. My wife just started a blog and
this is her request. An example of what she wants is found at:
Here, each item on the navigation bar is a category (I believe) and
when you click on the category you are presented with excerpts from
recent (or all -- I'm not sure) posts in that category.
Actually, It is similar to the category widget that comes as a prepackaged
widget in WordPress.
My wife's blog (still in progress) is: http://overmybackfence.com
Look at the widget she titled "Articles by Category." When you
choose a category and click, it reveals excerpts from all (or recent
-- not sure which) posts in that category.
We would like to have that exact function across the navigation bar,
Thanks for listening and we really LOVE Socrates!
That's exactly how Socrates works.
If you goto Socrates > Navigation
You'll see all your categories on right hand side.. copy those links to your primary navbar and give them a name.
When clicked they will show excerpts of the posts in the category
Thanks so much. I didn't understand that. I thought
we had to just put in the urls of individual posts on the
Thanks so much for the clarification.
