Lissa,
I could answer here, but have you googled "what is a backlink"

I did but I'm still not clear. "All the links pointing at a particular web page" or "incoming links to a website or web page"-- so in other words, whenever anyone links to your site, that is a "backlink"?

Yes, a backlink is a link to your site from another site.

Yes, but how do you get a backlink? Is it that you convince someone from another site to link to your site?

The best way is if someone likes your site well enough to link to some of your content. That is what Google and the search engines prefer. You can also buy backlinks (if the search engines think you bought the link they will count it against you though). The best way to generate backlinks quickly is to contribute quality content on sites related to yours. This can be done by commenting on related sites, posting on forums, submitting articles to article distribution sites. In each case you would put a link to your site in your signature. Preferably with your keyword as the link text.

Thanks, Lynn. What do you mean by "your keyword"?

For search engine optimization (SEO) there are certain words or phrases that people would use to find what you have using the search engines. These words or phrases are referred to as your keywords. You should be using a plug-in like "All in One SEO" to associated keywords with each of your posts. This helps the search engines drive traffic to the topics that people are searching for.

Thanks! Appreciate your reply!

I read about the dofollow / nofollow links sometime ago. I understand that dofollow links are referred over nofollow links (comment on blogs). But that was 2 years ago. Is it still valid?
