Adding Socrates Over Older Basic Theme

This question may well have been asked before, but I can't find an answer. I am currently using an old WP theme, very basic like the default theme of a number of years ago. What would it do to my website if I changed the theme to Socrates? Would all my content disappear? Or would I just have to reconfigure everything to fit within the Socrates theme? I have a number of older sites like this that I would like to change out to Socrates, but I'm afraid I'll lose everything on the sites.

WordPress stores all of your pages and posts in a database and then uses the current theme to know how to display them. Changing the theme will not cause you to lose anything. It will just change the way it is presented.

I just uploaded the Socrates theme and tried to activate it. The following message came back:

The plugin does not have a valid header.

What do I do now?

Socrates is a theme, not a plugin.

Upload it in Appearance > Themes > upload

We also have installation instructions in the member's area which might be helpful.

Duh. That was too easy. I've been at this for far too long today. I'm rummy and it's showing. I feel so stupid.
