Making money from videos
Hi
I have a video question. Once my site is built, I'm thinking of charging people a small fee per month just to be able to login and view the full videos. They could still read the associated blog that goes with the video and / or watch a 45sec You Tube video, but I'm thinking video could be a good way of making extra dollars based on the time I would be putting into making the vids. How would any of you recommend I could do this? Could I do this using YouTube so the associated video uploads and bandwidth associated would be YT? Or would I need to have the videos saved onto my webhosts server? Assuming longterm, the bigger the site and traffic, I would need a dedicated server? I've been told about Amazon S3 storage and Amember Wordpress plugin.
Thanks in advance

I use Amazon S3, WishlistMember and Wordtube to manage videos and members.
S3 is really cheap.. and easy to setup. Even with 1000's of views the most i ever paid was $30 in a month.
YouTube is also an option as long as your videos are short.

Awesome thanks for that Dan. Will check them out.

With regards to Adsense returns from video vs Adsense on a persons site only, have you had varying results with both? I'm thinking that I should have a You Tube presence to make 45 sec or so videos of my entire membership only videos. That way as people search YouTube a lot for videos, they can find my videos, then click on the link to visit the page on my site where the full video resides hiding behind Wishlist member or the such. Initially I would prompt people to give their email address so that they gain access to the full video, then in the future start charging people if they want to watch the whole video.
What do you think of this approach?

The videos will provide you with two solid benefits. Additional traffic via YouTube and more importantly, higher Google rankings because visitors will be spending longer on your site because of the time spent viewing the videos.

Got you. Want about the goal of being able to make adsense revenue from the YT videos vs the site? Can YouTube make more?
-
In a way yes. Adsense revenue is all about getting traffic from people who have an interest in your niche and making sure your content has your keywords so that Google provides ads relevant to that niche. As long as the YouTube videos tie in to that niche it will drive that kind of traffic.

Ok thanks Lynnth. Is what I just suggested though possible with Wishlist member, the plugin Dan suggests?
-
You can protect any content you have with a membership plug-in like Wishlist. Of course you can't use YouTube for the protected longer videos. Those you will need to host either on your own site or (better choice) S3.

Got you. So just put the shorter videos and teasers on You Tube. Still need to check out this Amazon S3. So you get charged based on viewage correct?
