How to set up magazine layout

I have looked everyone on the theme settings, nowhere do I see how to set up the magazine style in the new version. Can anyone direct me.

I had to choose the featured image on my own, manually.

There are however 2 more problems that I have just encountered.

1-Featured image are showing on my main page (index page).
2-Full articles are shown instead of summary, even though I have chosen to show only the summary in the "reading" setting.

The featured image should show up on the index page in the image rotator. To show just a excerpt of the post you also need to put a "read more" tag in your text at the point you want the excerpt to end. In the visual editor it looks like a page with a horizontal dashed line through it.

I have rectified that error thanks to your help *grateful*.

One more thing. How come there are 17 posts (which are all my blog posts to date) shown on the homepage? How can I change this? Previously pagination (at the bottom is still working) without the magazine template.

Please help me. I appreciate it.
