Can't load template headers or backgrounds

Greetings!

I have Socrates installed on my blog and am getting this error message when I try to upload a template background image:

Warning: move_uploaded_file(../wp-content/themes/socrates/background-images/plancks_view_of_orion.jpg) [function.move-uploaded-file]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/sharonho/public_html/wp-content/themes/socrates/functions/panel/themeoptions.php on line 194

And when I try to upload a template header image, there is no image showing, only a broken image icon.
I'm using Google Chrome and Firefox.

Make sure you image names have no numbers or punctuation in them.
