How to make shortened posts on "magazine template"?

How do you make the posts shortened about 3 lines, then say read more... Please look here on my site how my posts are all full length. How can you change that?

Use the "more tag" It's a standard Wordpress function..

Is there no way to do this as a standard within the Socrates theme itself? If not, do you have a development roadmap, and could this suggestion be put on it? I'd really like the ability to set a default excerpt size to show on the index, category. tag, and archive pages. I'd like to be able to override this default or disable it on an individual post basis.

I grant that the "more tag" provides a greater deal of specificity, which is why I'd like to be able to override any default I set, but I'd really like to have an excerpt-it-and-forget-it capability.

Hi Bal,

Thanks for the input. We don't currently have plans to implement such a feature, but we'll certainly make note of the idea for future development. For now, we're all using the "more tag."
